Death

  • Artist Mehlli Gobhai passes away
    • Mumbai-based artist, Mehlli Gobhai has died at the age of 87 in a city hospital this morning.
    • Gobhai is considered one of the “foremost abstractionist artists in India”
    • The artist held many solo and group shows in India and abroad.

    Business

    • BPCL to invest ₹40,000 crore in new plant
      • Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is planning to set up a ₹40,000-crore petrochemicals plant at Rasayani in Raigad District of Maharashtra.
      • BPCL to manufacture polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene at this plant.
      • The company also plans to shift its LPG bottling plant, storage facilities and bitumen plant to Rasayani, 60 km away from its Mumbai plant.
    • CPI Inflation Falls To 3.69% In August
      • Data released by the Central Statistics Office on Wednesday, showed that retail inflation was at 3.69 percent in August compared to 4.17 percent in July.
      • Consumer price inflation fell below 4 percent for the first time in 2018.
      • Inflation is currently running below the MPC’s forecast of 4.6 percent in the second quarter of the current financial year.
  • OFB target Rs 1000cr exports in two years
    • Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) is targeting to export Rs 1,000 crore worth of defence ammunition products over the next two years.
    • Last year, the state-run OFB’s exports stood at Rs 250 crore.
    • For the first time, OFB has conducted a road show for defence attaches with Indian embassies abroad to keep them updated on the products which it manufactures as also their export potential.

  • Afghanistan’s DABS ties up with Tata Power
    • The Afghanistan government-run power distribution firm, Da Afghanistan Bresha Sherkat (DABS), on Wednesday signed MoU with Tata Power for distribution, transmission and generation of power.
    • Afghanistan has the potential to produce around 200 GW of power from solar energy besides another 66 GW of from wind energy.
    • Tata power is looking to tap “huge” opportunities in Afghanistan

  • HCL SSHS sets up centre in Vijayawada
    • HCL SSHS (State Street HCL Services) Facility, a joint venture between HCL Technologies and US-based State Street Corporation, Thursday said it has set up an IT centre in Vijayawada.
    • The centre will create employment opportunities for over 1,000 people in the areas of capital markets – middle and back office for custody, fund administration, investment management and brokerage services.
