Directions (1-5): Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below:
Nine people – A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and I who live on separate floors of a 9-floors building such that ground floor is numbered 1, first floor is numbered 2 and so on until the topmost floor is numbered 9. Each one of them belongs to different city of India viz. P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W and X but not necessarily in the same order.
Only five people live above the floors on which A lives. Only one person lives between A and the one who belongs to U. F lives immediately below the one who belongs to Q. The one who belongs to Q live on an even numbered floor. Only three people lives between the one who belongs to U and the one who belongs to R. E lives immediately above C. E does not belong to R. Only two people lives between B and the one who belongs to X. The one who belongs to T doesn’t live below the floor on which B lives. H, who belongs to W lives on floor no. 8. The one who belongs to P does not live immediately above or immediately below E. D does not live immediately above or immediately below A. I belongs to X and lives immediately above H. C does not belong to S.
Q1. Who amongst the following lives immediately below the floor on which C lives?

(b)B
(c) No one.

(e) S
Q5. How many people live between the floors on which D and the one who belongs to X?
(a) None
(b) Two
(c) One
(d) More than three
(e) Three
Solution (1-5):
Sol. (i). By using the given conditions, only five people live above the floors on which A lives, so A lives on floor no 4. Only one person lives between A and the one who belongs to U, this will give two possibilities for U i.e. on floor 6 or floor 2. Only three people lives between the one who belongs to U and the one who belongs to R. H, who belongs to W lives on floor no. 8. The one who belongs to Q live on an even numbered floor, so Q placed on floor number 4. F lives immediately below the one who belongs to Q. I belongs to X and lives immediately above H. Only two people lives between B and the one who belongs to X. So, we get two possible cases:
(ii). From rest conditions, E lives immediately above C. E does not belong to R, so there is only one place for E and C i.e. on the 2nd and 1st floor and since E doesn’t belong to R, so case 1 gets cancelled. D does not live immediately above or immediately below A, so D lives on floor no 7 and G lives on floor no 5. The one who belongs to T doesn’t live below the floor on which B lives. The one who belongs to P does not live immediately above or immediately below E, the one who belongs to P lives on 5th floor. C does not belong to S, so, we get the final arrangement.
