Daily Reasoning Quiz - 5th June 2018

Directions (1–5): Read the following information carefully and answers the questions given below.

Eight friends J, K, L, M, N, O, P and Q like different drinks – Juice, Cold drink, Tea, Coffee, Shake, Milk, Water and Zalta. All of them are seated around a square table (two on each side) facing the centre. No one sits at corner.

L sits third to the right of K. K likes Tea. P is sitting second to the left of O. O is not an immediate neighbour of L and K. The one who likes Juice is an immediate neighbour of O. Three people sit between K and the person who likes Milk. K, L and also their immediate neighbours do not like Coffee. Only one person sits between the person who likes Coffee and M, when counted in clockwise from M. The persons who like Shake and Zalta are immediate neighbour of each other. L likes neither Zalta nor Shake. Only one person sits between J and the person who likes Cold drink when counted in anticlockwise direction from J. J does not like Coffee and Shake. N does not like Coffee. L and P do not sit on the same side of the table.

Q1. Which of the following is true regarding P?
(a) P likes the Cold drink
(b) Q and M are immediate neighbours of P
(c) One person sits between P and the person who likes Zalta.
(d) P sits second to the right of J
(e) None of these

Q2. Who amongst the following likes Shake?
(a) L
(b) P
(c) M
(d) N
(e) Cannot be determined.

Q3. How many persons sit between Q and the person who likes Zalta, when counted from the clockwise direction of the person who likes Zalta?
(a) None
(b) One
(c) Two
(d) Three
(e) Four

Q4. Which of the following is true?
(a) Only one person is sitting between the person who likes Zalta and Water.
(b) Q likes Coffee.
(c) The person who likes Shake is an immediate neighbour of K.
(d) One person sits between K and the person who likes Coffee.
(e) None is true

Q5. Who amongst the following represent immediate neighbours of M?
(a) J, N
(b) O and the person who likes Coffee
(c) K and the person who likes Water
(d) O, P
(e) J, Q

Solutions (1-5):

Sol. L sits third to the right of K. K likes Tea. O is not an immediate neighbour of L and K. Three people sit between K and the person who likes Milk. P is sitting second to the left of O. From this we get two possible cases---

L and P do not sit on the same side of the table. From this case-2 will be eliminated. K, L and also their immediate neighbours do not like Coffee. Only one person sits between the person who likes Coffee and M, when counted in clockwise from M. The one who likes Juice is an immediate neighbour of O. The persons who like Shake and Zalta are immediate neighbour of each other. L likes neither Zalta nor Shake.

J does not like Coffee and Shake. Only one person sits between J and the person who likes Cold drink when counted in anticlockwise direction from J. From this we get that J sits to the immediate right of K and likes Zalta further O likes Water. So the final arrangement is---

S1. Ans.(e)

S2. Ans.(d)

S3. Ans.(d)

S4. Ans.(b)

S5. Ans.(c)

Directions (6-10): A word and number arrangement machine when given an input line of words and numbers rearranges them following a particular rule in each step. The following is an illustration of input and rearrangement.

Input: safe 63 big 51 88 69 danger look 81 real
Step I: big safe 63 51 69 danger look 81 real 88
Step II: danger big safe 63 51 69 look real 88 81
Step III: look danger big safe 63 51 real 88 81 69
Step IV: real look danger big safe 51 88 81 69 63
Step V: safe real look danger big 88 81 69 63 51
And step V is the last step of the arrangement. As per the above rule followed in the above steps, find out in each of the following questions the appropriate step for the input given below;

Input: 41 do practice 21 49 more can little 29 aries 53 44

Q6. How many steps would be needed to complete the arrangement?
(a) IV
(b) V
(c) VI
(d) VII
(e) None of these

Q7. Which Step number would be the following output?
little do can aries practice 21 more 29 53 49 44 41
(a) III
(b) II
(c) VII
(d) IV
(e) There will be no such step

Q8. Which of the following would be the step I?
(a) aries 41 do can practice 21 more little 49 29 53 44
(b) aries can 21 practice do 41 more little 29 53 44 49
(c) aries 41 do practice 21 44 more can little 49 53 29
(d) aries 41 do practice 44 21 can more little 29 49 53
(e) None of these

Q9. In step V, which of the following word/number would be on the 6th position (from the right)?
(a) 44
(b) 21
(c) 49
(d) practice
(e) aries

Q10. Which of the following would be the final arrangement?
(a) practice more little do can aries 53 44 49 41 29 21
(b) practice more little do can aries 53 21 44 41 29 49
(c) practice more little do can aries 53 49 44 21 29 41
(d) practice more little do can aries 53 49 44 41 29 21
(e) None of these

Solutions (6-10):

Sol. In this Input-Output question one word and one number will be arranged simultaneously in each step.
For words- Words are arranged in alphabetical order from left end such that in first step the word which is lowest according to the place value of the first letter of the word is arranged first from the left end then so on in further steps.
For numbers- All the numbers are arranged from the right end. The numbers are arranged in decreasing order such that the highest number is arranged first from the right end then the second highest number will be arranged from the right end in next step and so on.

Input: 41 do practice 21 49 more can little 29 aries 53 44
Step I: aries 41 do practice 21 49 more can little 29 44 53
Step II: can aries 41 do practice 21 more little 29 44 53 49
Step III: do can aries 41 practice 21 more little 29 53 49 44
Step IV: little do can aries practice 21 more 29 53 49 44 41
Step V: more little do can aries practice 21 53 49 44 41 29
Step VI: practice more little do can aries 53 49 44 41 29 21
