1)GUYANA  GETS NEW PRESIDENT ;


  • Presidential candidate of the peoples progressive party Dr. Mohamed Irfan Ali has been sworn in as Guyana's ninth Executive President. 
  • Former president Mr. Bharat Jagdev who was sworn in as vie president, will held a transition team. 
  • The new PM Mr. Mark Phillips, Attorney General Mr. Anil Nandall and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Ms. Gail Teoxeria were sworn in on aug 2, 2020.

2)WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK : 1-7 AUG 2020;


  • Every year the first week of august is observed as the World Breastfeeding Week, which aims at raising awarness about the benefits of breast feeding. 
  • The theme for the year 2020 is support breastfeeding for a healthier planet. 


3)TN GOVERNMENT  TO  IMPLEMENT TWO LANGUAGE FORMULA;


  • TN gov is in favour of implementing the two language formula in education in the state. 
  • The gov would not accept the three language formula as contained in the policy. 
  • TN  Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswamy asked the centre to permit the states to adopt  the methods that are suitable to them on this matter. 

4)INDIA WITHDRAWS FROM WOMENS SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIP ;


  • India has withdrawn from the womens world team squash championship scheduled in Kuala Lumpur,  Malaysia from 15th to 20th december 2020.
  • It cited a lack of preparation time and match readiness of its players. 

5)INDIAN ORIGIN DOC:NYC'S HEALTH COMMISSIONER ;


  • Dr. Dave A Chokshi, an Indian origin Physician has been appointed as New York city's new health commissioner by Mayor Bill De Blasio. 
  • Chokshi was named commissioner of the city's department of health and mental hygiene after serving health commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot resigned from her post. 

6)LUPIN LAUNCHES COVIHALT FOR COVID TREATMENT ;


  • Lupin limited has announced the launch of its Favipiravir in India and the brand name Covihalt for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID -19.
  • Favipiravir has received authorization from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for emergency use. 

7)UK CONSIDERING A COIN TO COMMEMORATE GANDHI ;


  • Gandhi advocated for non - violence throughout his life and played a key role in India's struggle for Independence. 
  • His birthday, oct 2 is observed as the International Day of Non -Violence. 

8)HYDERABAD 16TH AMONG 20 CITIES GLOBALLY ;


  • Hyderabad has been ranked 16th among the Top 20 most surveilled cities globally according to a report by a UK -based firm. 
  • The firm comparitech conducted a survey of cities, in which hyderabad with its 3lakh CCTV cameras being used to keep a tab on a city that has a population of a little over 1 cr, figured 16th in the most surveilled cities.
